Are Airlines ready for year 2000?

List of airlines with y2k links

IATA - The International Air Transport Association  issued a Press Release in December 1997 that states that:

List of IATA members (large file)

" Airlines will spend an estimated US$2.3 billion preparing their systems for the Millennium," but airline action alone cannot ensure business continuity and minimal impact on international travel and trade."

IATA launched a worldwide project in June 1998 with key industry partners, focusing primarily on airports and air traffic services providers, to ensure that they too were actively pursuing Millennium change preparation programmes.

"Safety remains our number one priority. Flying through the Millennium period will be no different. IATA and its Member airlines are committed to working ever more closely with all partners in the air transport industry during the year ahead to complete Y2K project work and minimize any inconvenience to travellers. ."

There is only a few months to go to the dreaded date and the booking systems now accepting reservations for the year 2000.  Many booking systems are on-line on the Internet.  Yet of the airlines that have websites only a handful have a statement of y2k (Year 2000) compliance.

So we checked the IATA members for a statement of y2k compliance (in English) on their websites:
We will print any Year 2000 statement received!

The only airlines that do are: listed below.
They do not all carry passengers by they all fly aircraft!
