There is Universal confusion as to why Greenwich, England lays claim to being the official start of the millennium. Why not at the International Date Line? Whilst it is true to say that countries who lie in the time zone adjacent to the International Date Line (GMT+12) will start to party the New Year 12 hours before Greenwich; it will only be in their local time zone (IE GMT+12). All World or Universal Time is measured from Greenwich, England. Only when midnight GMT arrives does a new Universal Day begin. Who says so? The International Meridian Conference, called by the President of the United States in 1884 in Washington, DC, USA.
