More than 10,000 athletes from 171 nations are expected to compete in the
Games of the XXVIIth Olympiad to be held in Sydney, Australia.
Melbourne 2000 - City of the 3rd Millennium
Melbourne 2000: January 1, 2000. Commencing on December 31,
1999, the dawning of the millennium will be celebrated with a family-oriented
party into the wee hours that includes spectacular fireworks, street
celebrations and performances.
The epicentre of the celebrations will be the Old Exhibition
Building, the Museum of Victoria and Carlton Gardens.
Expo 21C
Expo 21C: January, 2001. Twelve months on and into the first
year of the new millennium and the centenary of Federation, Melbourne is the
site of Expo 21C which will comprise futuristic, interactive displays prepared
in partnership with the Melbourne Festival's Partners of the Future.
Expo 21C, in the tradition of the great exhibitions of the late
nineteenth century, will reflect the nation and its great themes and
preoccupations at the beginning of the 21st century, such as technology, the
environment, communications and identity.
