Bulgaria

The encouragement of the millennium projects throughout Europe impressed and motivated a group of Bulgarian intellectuals who on 16th February, 1996 established the foundation " Consortium 2000". It is a non-government organisation that has developed the strategies of marking the close of the second millennium and celebrating the beginning of the third all over Bulgaria.We want to confirm the importance of many Bulgarian achievements and our contribution to the world civilisation.

Consortium 2000 has created and initiated the millennium-orientated national program " Bulgaria 2000 ".  Project " Bulgaria 2000" would help Bulgaria to show its important place in human civilisation at the same time as all the other big countries and powerful nations. The created - Project Bulgaria 2000 - must unite the efforts of our nation to build, select, nominate and mark the most important achievements of Bulgaria on the verge of the third millennium; to strengthen its position in European culture and worldwide. Project Bulgaria 2000 is based on regional and national offers and competitions in the following directions: Art, Culture and Religion, Science and Industry, Ecology, International Relations, Sports.

The two main parts of " Project Bulgaria 2000" are:

• The Book of the Millennium - a history book about the Bulgarian country, about the people Living on its land for 20 centuries, about their way of life. The aim of this book is to shape the past and show the right way to the future, revealing the achievements of many hundreds of generations.

• The Exhibition of the Millennium " Bulgaria 2000 " - a presentation of Bulgarian contribution to the different fields of knowledge: Science, Industry, Commerce, Culture.

Consortium 2000 gets interesting material for realising different projects. This is vital for building a global community. " 1001 Arabian Nights" is a 1001 day countdown from April 5 1998 to join the Oriental and Western worlds by creating a cosmos of creativity, feelings and fantasy. The theme 1001 nights is open for discussion and alternative ideas.The idea stresses on the need to recognise that all countries have contributed to the world past, present and future.

Project Bulgaria 2000 is open for national, regional and local institutions, associations, foundations, companies and individuals.  Consortium 2000 keeps a special book with the names of the donators helping our organisation by supporting our initiatives. Such help from donations will enable us to gradually expand our mission. The creation of this programme itself cost a lot of funds. It has been achieved without state finances and now have started searching for the means that would help realise these our millennium projects.
