Millennium Dome Auction
Henry Butcher appointed for historic dome disposal

A unique opportunity to purchase a piece of history will be available to
everyone following the planned closure of the UK's premier Millennium
attraction on December 31st 2000 Henry Butcher International Ltd, will
dispose of all the contents, owned by NMEC (New Millennium Experience
Company - operators of the Millennium Dome) , that went into creating The
Dome, Greenwich.
The Dome is credited with being the largest enclosed space on earth and
encapsulates the best in imagination and design. Divided into 14 themed
Zones, the Dome houses an enormous range of assets in hundreds of
categories, including lighting, audio visual, broadcast & sound
equipment, restaurant and catering equipment, stage equipment, office
furniture and equipment, golf buggies, battery powered scooters and
vehicles. Even the equipment from the world famous Millennium Show, which
currently employs 350 people, will be for sale including stage and
acrobatic props, costumes and circus rigging.
Henry Butcher International will be disposing of all assets owned by NMEC
over the next three months by Private Treaty and Public Auction. The
Private Treaty sale process is already underway and includes many of the
themed Zones, in their entirety or in substantial parts; Audio Visual and
Broadcast equipment from some of the most sophisticated systems installed
in Europe; Sound and Lighting equipment from the largest and most complex
sound installation in the world. In addition there is also some
exceptional exhibition equipment together with access and security
equipment and portable buildings. The Dome also accommodates one of the
biggest catering and hospitality facilities in Europe catering for up to
5,000 people. (see Appendix 1 for more details).
Some of the assets have been selected for Private Treaty Sale. This
Private Treaty sale process will continue through to mid February 2001,
further details are available from the catalogue, which is available on
request from Henry Butcher (see below for details). However, the majority
of assets will be sold by Public Auction.
The public auction is open to everyone and will take place over four days
- 27th/28th February and 1st/2nd of March 2001 - and any enquiries
regarding the auction will be dealt with after the Dome closes at the end
of December. Viewing of the assets will be a few days prior to the auction
sale.
Derek Sadler, Henry Butcher's Director responsible for The Dome project
says: " We are obviously delighted to have been selected to work on a
historic project like the Millennium Dome. We will be offering for sale
most of the contents and infrastructure that went towards making the Dome
such a talked about attraction - it is a genuine opportunity for people to
purchase a piece of history.
